I woke up about 5:30 a.m. to the sounds of Avery and Kim. T-Lou was staring at himself in the full-length mirror on the door, his tail straight out. (He doesn't usually get to see himself in the mirror.) After some intense stare down, he shook himself, walked up to the mirror, gave it a lick, and figured that other dog was OK.
I got up, and Kim and I hung out for a while before deciding we should take Avery out while it was still relatively cool.
Avery's Playground
Just down the street and around the corner is a slightly decrepit elementary school with an overgrown lawn in front and playground in back with handy concrete paths that lead you through the jungle of grasses. It was a beautiful walk: crepe myrtle and the giant white magnolias, along with mockingbirds and cardinals and all kinds of other strange birds and trees.
T-Lou pulled at his leash and longed for the chuckit--nothing new there.
When we arrived, Kim and I took turns sitting under the spreading giant tree and spotting Avery as she climbed, slid, wiggled, swung, and hung. She even managed to get T-Lou up on the swaying bridge. They are both enchanted with each other, though T-Lou's enchantment wears out sooner. He wore out pretty quickly in the heat as well after a number of ball chases. Avery got pretty interested in the chuckit routine as well!
We schlepped home and then we organized ourselves for a fresh organic food shop. Look where it was!
After that, we spent most of the day organizing, washing clothes, and just hanging out in the cool house and enjoying each others' company and, especially, Avery! And we got pizza--yum! Picking it up, we also picked up Phil and got to see the imposing Vanderbilt where he works.
